Trump promises a major Ukraine deal that could affect Europe
The US president did not disclose the proposed deal’s terms. Ukraine–Russia talks mediated by the United States are scheduled for November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi.
US President Donald Trump said at the White House on November 5, 2026, that he expected a major agreement to end Russia’s war against Ukraine that could affect all of Europe. He did not disclose the substance of the prospective arrangements. Ukrinform’s correspondent and Ukrainska Pravda, citing a White House broadcast, reported his remarks.

According to Ukrinform’s account, Trump said there would be a big deal concerning more than Ukraine. He added that it might affect all of Europe. The president was answering a question about a meeting with Vladimir Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev but declined to disclose their conversation.
Trump also expressed hope that the war would end soon. Asked whether he raised Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilians, the US president said he consistently drew attention to the issue, while also saying he discussed deaths on the other side. He gave no specific deadline for reaching an agreement.

The next announced negotiating stage is a meeting between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by the United States, in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11. US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff specified those dates and the working-level format in a November 2 post on X. He said the agenda would cover post-war security, de-escalation, humanitarian efforts and further steps toward peace.
In a November 5 post on X, Jared Kushner confirmed plans for trilateral discussions the following week in Abu Dhabi. He also said the US side had already held talks in Brussels with Ukraine, NATO and European partners on security guarantees for Ukraine and a broader European security architecture. According to Kushner, the United States had been working with both sides on proposals for the upcoming meeting.

Volodymyr Zelensky outlined Ukraine’s position on security guarantees. According to Ukrinform’s account of his TSN interview, the November 4–5 talks in Brussels addressed how to set out in writing who would act, with what means and when, if Russia started a war again. Zelensky linked preparations for answering these questions to the upcoming discussions in the Emirates on November 10–11.
The statements therefore concern an anticipated agreement and preparations for negotiations, rather than a signed peace document. Trump did not explain which provisions of the prospective deal might affect all of Europe.
