Strike on Zhytomyr energy facility also disrupts Kyiv’s utilities
Repair crews assessed damage after the November 6 attack. Mayor Klitschko reported worsening electricity supply and lower water pressure in Kyiv.
Russian forces attacked an energy infrastructure facility in the Zhytomyr municipality on the evening of November 6, 2026. The effects also reached Kyiv: Mayor Vitali Klitschko said damage to the facility had worsened the capital’s electricity supply and reduced pressure in its water supply system.

Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration head Vitaliy Bunechko reported the attack in a statement quoted by Ukrinform. Repair crews were working at the site, assessing equipment damage and determining what work was needed to restore electricity.

Ukrinform also relayed media reports of a powerful explosion at around 7:30 p.m. and a citywide blackout in Zhytomyr. Bunechko’s official statement confirms the attack on the energy facility but does not specify how many customers lost power.
In Kyiv, electricity disruptions also affected water delivery. Klitschko said the Kyivvodokanal water utility was switching stations to generators wherever possible. This describes backup power for some stations, not a full restoration of the city’s water supply.

Bunechko gave no deadline for restoring electricity, saying the time needed for repairs could be determined after an expert assessment of the damage. For residents, this meant there was still no confirmed end to the disruptions at the time of his statement.
