According to information from Trenčín regional police relayed by the ministry, the man sustained two stab wounds in the heart and abdominal areas. He died from his injuries and acute internal bleeding. Regional criminal police opened an investigation into intentional homicide.

The ministry specifically clarified that all the Ukrainians mentioned were civilians. Two were in Slovakia on a work trip and are not members of Ukraine’s Defence Forces. This contradicts early Slovak media reports describing those involved as Ukrainian service personnel allegedly attending training as members of an aviation unit.

Pluska quoted regional police spokesperson Petra Klenková as saying that police received a report of a violent crime at an accommodation facility in Trenčín shortly after midnight on November 5. Patrols sent to the scene confirmed the incident and detained one suspect. A regional criminal police investigator took over the case.

Emergency medical dispatch spokesperson Petra Klimešová, quoted by Pluska, said the 53-year-old victim was being taken to Trenčín hospital on mechanical ventilation but died during transport. The motive and precise circumstances of the conflict remain unclear. The ministry’s statement that another person is being sought does not specify that person’s procedural status.

Ukraine’s embassy in Slovakia contacted the victim’s wife to help with funeral arrangements. The ministry said the embassy is monitoring the case.
