Zelenskyy discussed Russian damage to locomotives with Sánchez
Ukraine’s president reported strikes on the railway and a new Spanish military aid package worth €437 million.
On 5 November 2026, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had discussed Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, including the railway, with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. According to Ukraine’s president, Russia has damaged more Ukrainian locomotives this year than in all previous years of this war combined.

In a post on his official Telegram channel, Zelenskyy described strikes on energy infrastructure, logistics and the railway. He did not give the number of damaged locomotives or the scale of replacement needs. His account concerned damaged equipment, not a complete absence of locomotives in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy also announced a new Spanish military aid package worth €437 million. He discussed its contents and Ukraine’s most pressing defence needs with Sánchez. The post did not disclose a list of weapons or delivery dates; the president did not announce any transfer of locomotives.

The president separately said the electricity grid and water supply were under constant attack and described the situation as difficult, particularly in Kyiv. Against that backdrop, he stressed the importance of humanitarian support and thanked Spain and Sánchez personally for their assistance.
