Cage reprises his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov. According to the published synopsis, Orlov discovers he has a son, Anton, played by Bill Skarsgård. Rather than right his father’s wrongs, Anton intends to surpass him: he is building a private army and seeking to profit from America’s wars in the Middle East. The story centres on a father-son rivalry for power and influence.

Andrew Niccol, who directed the original 2005 film, wrote and directed the sequel. The cast also includes Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks and Greg Tarzan Davis. The new film therefore reunites the original’s lead actor and filmmaker more than two decades later.

Vital Thrills previously reported that Vertical had acquired US distribution rights. By then, filming in Morocco had wrapped, with initial footage planned for exhibitors at CinemaCon. The current teaser marks public promotion of the forthcoming release, not an announcement that the film has already premiered.
