Russian forces struck an electricity supply facility in Nizhyn district, Chernihiv region, overnight into November 5, 2026. The attack left 35,000 customers without power, Chernihivoblenergo spokesperson Kateryna Drozdova told Suspilne.

Chernihiv regional military administration head Viacheslav Chaus confirmed the overnight attack on an energy facility and said firefighters had extinguished the blaze there. According to his morning statement, emergency power cuts were in effect in one district, while the rest of the region was subject to scheduled hourly outages.

Nizhyn community opened resilience centres on November 5 because of the electricity shortage. Residents can charge their mobile phones there during prolonged outages, Suspilne reported, citing the city council.
The centres are at four locations: the municipal market at 21 Shevchenka Street; the NPAL educational institution at 5A Nezalezhnosti Street; the Sport for All centre’s gym at 156 Prylutska Street; and the cultural centre at 16 Batiuka Street. Announced opening hours are until 21:00 on November 5, and subsequently from 08:00 to 17:00 if needed.

The previous day, November 4, Chaus outlined the region’s preparations for a difficult winter, including installing modular boiler houses and expanding generator reserves. He said communities and key institutions had assembled the necessary generator fleet last year, but fuel stocks needed to increase, an issue he had raised with government officials.
